"Dream in the Chaos: Finding Your Purpose While Dodging Life’s Curveballs"

A woman, frustrated, trying to work

Oh, my dear, overwhelmed, busy, beautiful soul—I see you. I see the countless to-do lists, the laundry sitting in the dryer so long it’s practically a resident, the work deadlines, the meals that don’t make themselves, and the moments when you just want five minutes of peace. You're juggling so much, trying to be everything to everyone. And yet, in the quiet of the night or the stillness of early morning, there's this tiny voice whispering, "What if I could write a book?"

And maybe your first thought is something like, "How would I even find the time?" Adding one more thing, especially something as big as writing a book, can feel almost laughable. You already feel pulled in a dozen directions. Even so, that idea still lingers. It keeps tapping you on the shoulder, gently reminding you that it matters. That you matter. And it’s okay to make room for something that’s just for you.

Believe me, I know how hard it is. My desire to build a career that I loved while raising a family was always met with distractions and setbacks. Having an identity that wasn't only "Mom" or "Honey" was something I had wanted for so long, but life—as it tends to do—kept throwing curveballs. And sometimes, it felt like life was throwing those curveballs with the intensity of a major league pitcher. In 2023, I found myself overcoming some challenging health issues and healing from not one but two major surgeries. I was homeschooling my teenage son, running a few businesses with my husband, and trying to keep my head above water most days. Finding time to get a coherent thought down on paper seemed like a luxury—like taking a shower without someone asking me what the password was to Hulu.

That Dream Doesn’t Go Away

Even when everything else is loud, that quiet pull to create still shows up. It might sit quietly for a while, but it doesn’t leave. And after enough time, you realize it’s not just a passing thought—it’s something you’re meant to do. I tried to ignore mine more than once, thinking I needed to be more available, more prepared, more rested. But the truth is, I just needed to begin with what I had.

You’ve given so much to everyone else. You don’t need anyone’s permission to build something for yourself. You’re not just here to check off tasks and care for others. You’re a woman with depth and creativity and something meaningful to say. Your ideas, your experiences, and your voice are enough to begin.

You probably won’t get long stretches of uninterrupted silence and a fresh cup of coffee that stays hot the whole time. Some days, you’ll write a sentence while waiting in the car. Some days, you’ll open your notes app just to capture one thought before it disappears. It’s okay if it’s messy. It’s okay if it takes time. What matters is that you stay connected to the dream, even in small ways.

Small Steps Count

After my surgeries, when my energy was limited and everything felt like a mountain, I gave myself permission to start small. A paragraph here. A few bullet points there. I stopped trying to make it perfect and just made it possible. Over time, those small steps built something I could be proud of. It happened slowly, but it happened.

If you’ve carried this idea in your heart, it’s not random. You don’t have to finish a draft this month or share it with the world tomorrow. But it’s worth exploring. Not because someone else said so, but because you haven’t been able to shake the feeling that there’s more in you, waiting.

If you're holding all the pieces of your life and wondering how to keep something for yourself, too, you’re not the only one. I’ve been there. So have many others. And even though we each walk our own path, there’s something powerful in knowing others are walking beside us, cheering us on in quiet, steady ways.

You Can Start From Here

Wherever you are, however full your days feel, you can start. One sentence, one note, one honest effort to make space for the thing that’s been calling you. It doesn’t have to be polished. It just has to be yours.

If you’d like support along the way—whether it’s encouragement, accountability, or someone to help bring your words into focus—I’m here.

Reach out here when you’re ready. I’d be honored to walk beside you.
